If this steam iron is as old as the owner claims, then maybe we should consider saving it.
First, Is it worth preserving? Does it have any significance?
What kind of costs would there be to move it to the Museum and put it on display?
If it can be put on display outside on a concrete slab with a roof over it, would that be enough to protect it?
A google search for "Assher" turned up nothing.

I'm tending to agree with everyone. We can find better things to demonstrate utilization with, perhaps even something made in RI to try and maintain that local focus.

My last job was working maintenance in a hotel. We had gas fired ironers for ironing bed sheets and other dry, not wet linens. Yes, they are big and heavy and if the one offered has sat for years, restoration could be a major job. Lou is right, demonstrating it would be difficult and it would need a large area and who knows how much steam to run it.

Ken,
If this is the same item I've seen in laundries I've inspected..It is big and heavy. I don't think we have room for it and it would be difficult to demonstrate how it works... unless you wanted to bring in your wet laundry from home. Under the circumstances I'd say give it a pass but thank the guy for his thought of us.

Hi All, This is not your family version of a steam iron. It is steam powered, approx. 8 ft. wide, would require riggers to remove from bldg. and transport, located in Pawtucket RI, and is free of charge. Any thoughts ???

This is a steam ironer for use in industrial laundries.

I do not want to scrap it. I was hoping someone would like to take it off of my hands.

Hi Peter, Is this steam iron the typical size of a modern iron ? Are you seeking to sell this item or as a donation to the museum. The museum could utilize this item as a very interesting display item. Thank you.
