This Hyatt Model A portable broadcast receiver was made in 1927 or 1928. It was quite expensive at $105 with batteries and tubes, which is almost $2,000 in 2025 value. It is a TRF (Tuned Radio Frequency) design and uses 6x UX199 triode vacuum tubes that have 3.3V filaments. It uses 3x 1.5V dry cell A batteries for the vacuum tube filaments, 2x 45V B batteries for the detector and amplifier, and 1x 4.5V C battery. The case is made from wood and covered with embossed leatherette, and measures 15″ x 11 1/2″ x 9 1/4″ and weighs about 28 pounds. There is a built-in horn speaker below the receiver chassis. The removable front cover contains a loop antenna and plugs into a loop jack in the top of the case. There is a sailing ship motif embossed on the inside of the front cover.
