This Viking Ranger transmitter was most likely built in the period of 1954-1961. It can transmit in AM and CW modes and does not require an external power supply since it has its own. The power supply is mostly responsible for the substantial 45 pounds heft of this unit. The transmitter is capable of an output power of about 40 watts.
Our example is in good cosmetic condition and shows evidence of recent upgrades including some new capacitors and power cord. It is still awaiting a proper evaluation and complete restoration after which it will become a functional part of our 1950s-1960s ham radio operating position in the Point Judith Wireless Station building. The serial number is not fully legible on our example. It appears to include the numbers “6337”.
