This worn out trolley car wheel was used as the grounding electrode at the Hamilton, RI, Seaview RR power station. The 600 volt DC generator was driven by an Improved Greene Engine. A heavy copper wire led from this buried wheel to the tracks. The tracks were negative and the trolley wire was positive to minimize galvanic corrosion.
Russell Johnson, who had the contract to take down the brick chimney, cleaned up and painted the wheel.
