"They did mention passing Point Judith and how it was called the Cape Horn of the North."
In the RI PBS program about the Bevertail Lighthouse Museum, they mention that more than 3,000 recorded
shipwrecks have occurred in Rhode Island waters.
Going around Cape Cod before the canal was built was similar with a large number of shipwrecks. In 1835, The Boston and Providence Railroad opened with the Providence terminal in Fox Point near where India Point Park is now (south of I-195). Passengers walked to the nearby steamship wharf to continue to New York.
In 1837, another railroad opened from South Providence to Stonington, CT. Now passengers from Boston and Providence could board a steamship in Stonington to go to New York and avoid the treacherous waters between Point Judith and Block Island. The only problem was that the two railroads did not meet in Providence and passengers had to take a ferry across the Providence River to change trains!

Just finished the Fall River Line lecture and there was nothing about Wireless! Unfortunately they did not take questions from Zoom attendees.
I guess I will write the author and enlighten him to Massie and wireless on the line. They mentioned technology on the ships in the form of electric light so wireless would be a good addition.
They did mention passing Point Judith and how it was called the Cape Horn of the North.
