As some of you know I am a big fan of old cars. My personaloldie is a 1941 Buick Roadmaster that you may have seen.So anytime I get a chance to meet with someone involved withthe automotive industry or related areas it is a treat.
I have met with Steve Rossi who as an engineer has been employed by about 10 different US and foreign manufacturers. He now spends mostof his time writing for the AACA publication Antique Automobile.
A personal friend of mine, Lee Ratliff, spent 3 years as Evel Knievel’smechanic, driver, and stunt supervisor. I have written a multipartblog about his time with Evel. http://idlenot.com/?cat=640
Today Don DeLuca introduced me to one of our visitors toArtists at NEWSM Day. She is Joan Klatil-Creamer. Joan was thefirst woman ever hired by GM (specifically Cadillac division) to designautomobile exteriors (1967). She actually worked for Harley Earl. She was very interesting to speak with!
Just one more reason to come by on Saturdays!
Note: Helene Rother (hired in 1947) was the first female designer who worked for GM.She and subsequent women designers worked on interiors only until Joan came along.
