Crosley Radio built the Bethany, Ohio transmitter for VOA. "In 1943, Crosley engineers built the U.S. government's Bethany shortwave transmitter site,[68] which was later taken over by the Voice of America." (from Wikipedia). I drove past this site many times when working in Ohio. The "antenna farm" is visible from I-75 north of metro Cincinnati. One time I got off I-75 and took a "tour" of the antenna site from outside the fence.
The WLW transmitter site is in Mason, Ohio, just East of Bethany. Here is a photo tour of WLW:https://700wlw.iheart.com/content/2022-06-15-touring-700-wlws-historic-transmitter-and-mammoth-tower-in-mason/
Photo #9 shows the transmitter tube like the one in the Wireless bldg.
The transmitter site is being developed into a retail center:https://www.wvxu.org/media/2021-05-06/work-starts-on-30-million-development-under-iconic-wlw-am-tower

While waiting for visitors this past Saturday I made someon air contacts with our Icom 706 transceiver and OCFDantenna. The Ohio QSO party was going on. For thenon-hams in the group, a QSO partyis a ham radio event that involves making as many onair contacts as possible with hams in one particular state.Saturday was Ohio’s day.
One contact I made was with station WC8VOA. This is theVoice of America (VOA) amateur radio club. The club meets ina beautiful building that was once a headquarters for theBethany, OH VOA station (the VOA is still active but this building is no longer used by them). The building now housesthe VOA museum. It is impressive. You might want to take a lookaround their website: http://www.voamuseum.org Many of the exhibits relate to radio and TV, much as ours do.
Many of their exhibits are related toCrosley Radio which besides making radios (and cars and refrigerators and other items) had their own broadcast radio station.WLW ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WLW ). WLW is still on the air.Once again, The National VOA Museum of Broadcasting website is at http://www.voamuseum.org
For interested hams you may want to listen for WC8VOA onSept. 24. On that date the club station will be on the air as aSpecial Event Station. You will be able to contact them andget a cool QSL card! See their QRZ page for more details.
