This is a great magazine issue!At least three useful and interesting articles.
And regarding crystal radios, I did finallyget my crystal radio to work. It is actuallya loose coupler that has a crystal detectorattached. I substituted a diode for the crystal.It was touch and go, literally. Tomorrow I hope to take it apart and clean up all contacts.Then I will look for a selection of crystal types topurchase. I want to make this one flameproof.I am using antique headphones of a particular brand thatwere known to be better than the rest.

Early Crystal Radio
This crystal radio was probably made from a kit and I would date it as mid to late 1920s. The smaller coil slides in and out on the rails while the outer coil has a sliding tap. To the far right you can see the cats whisker and galena crystal. H

While awaiting delivery of a new camera I am testing out a few ideas with my old one (broken LCD screen). The item on top is a loose coupler modified into a crystal radio. Below is a Crosley TRF with regeneration, and to the left is a Kodak dark room
