I picked up this Tangent Galvanometer used to measure electrical current. A compass belongs in the middle and it was used to compare the magnetic field generated by a unknown current to the magnetic field of the earth. This one was made by Knott Boston. This was used in the late 1800’s. Found a small replacement compass on eBay. Just looked neat and it was cheap so I bought it.
