Nice job on the Scott, Ken. And the video is great - I like the music, too.
I've repaired a lot of radios, but never a Scott. I recapped my first radio in the mid 1960's - a Meissner 8C FM tuner. I still have it. I wonder if it needs to be recapped again!

Sounds good to me.There are always plenty of AA5’s to be found.
I only did one Scott and not to my satisfaction. I never didthe AVC or attempted the alignment. I was happy to get it going after spending 2 years, on an off, at it. The first time I played it a great songcame on and I made a video of it. YouTube was not happy. I shrugged and left it there. At least they did not put ads on itlike they have with a couple other videos (no, they don’t pay me).
Here is the video. The radio is massive. I had the tuner bolted to aboard on saw horses. You will also see the power supply andspeaker.

Hey Ken, The closest I've come to military is the AA5-based sets that Hallicrafters and National made. However, I could certainly learn how to work on them. Once I'm confident enough, I might take a go at the Scott. I wouldn't be able to do anything about the plating, but I'm fairly confident I could make it play again. I could definitely put together a class of sorts on repair. I think there's a few AA5s in the basement of the Mayes Building that would be good starter sets, although I think most of them may have ended up in the upstairs display under the windows.

Sam,
That seems like a great idea! By that time we should have thatroom all ready to use. You might want to work on at least oneat the museum so you can demonstrate your technique tothe other radio guys. We all can learn from each other.
Have you ever done work on any military radio equipment? We have some truly interesting radios that need to cometo life so they can be demonstrated. One example isthe Collins-made ART-13 Transmitter. This massive radiohas a fully motorized antenna tuning unit that isfascinating to watch as it makes a match between the rig and antenna. We have other military radios, some on display
and some in storage. Then there are all the portables,TRF’s, All American Fives, high end luxury sets fromthe ‘20’s and ‘30’s, and ham gear.

I'd like to try and get some of the sets at the museum going possibly over this summer sometime. I'm thinking of doing those Philco cathedrals in the repair room. They need some cabinet work, too, which would have to wait till the warmer weather.

If anyone wants a Crosley console there is one inNorwich, CT going for about $60. … the seller has had it up for so long I suspect she would take $50. I bought a nice FADA TRF from her forjust $20 .. it came with a full set of balloon tubes, a nice cabinet, andthe original connection instructions pinned to the inside ofthe cabinet.
A real treat would be to restore the Shirley Temple Grunow consolethat is under the stairs in PJ. That’s a really cool teledial styleradio. Shirley Temple was featured in all the ads. See the link for somegreat archival photos and ads.
