This kickoff to National Engineering Week happens to coincide with The Fort
at No. 4's winter encampment which begins on February 15th and concludes on
Feb 16th! Experience living in the 18th century at the Fort - and come to
the museum (less than a half hour away) to warm up and try your hand at
colonial engineering! Experience the pioneering world of engineering. Bring
the whole family!

 On the first day of National Engineering Week, Sunday, February 16, the
museum will host a Pioneer Engineer Family Challenge. We’ll supply building
material of all kinds to construct your own miniature house from LEGOs, a
bridge out of spaghetti or toothpicks and marshmallows, a water wheel out
of a soda bottle or chairs made of newspapers. The American pioneers were
the early practical engineers solving basic problems of survival like how
to build a sturdy house and make their own tools, how to build a strong
bridge to cross a river, or how to design a water wheel to harness the
power of the river to grind wheat and grain. Re-imagine those days at the
American Precision Museum and try your modern hand at designing and
building these things in our Learning Lab.

Celebrating Women in Engineering at the American Precision Museum! The day
will be filled with engineering and maker activities guided by museum staff
and women engineers from Vermont Works for Women, Norwich University,
Hypertherm North America, Thayer School of Engineering , GE-Rutland, and
the Society of Women Engineers. Try your hand at precision soldering on
electronic circuit boards using a microscope. The Girl Scouts of the Green
and White Mountains will also be on hand to talk about the wide variety of
STEM badges Girl Scouts can earn!

On Monday, January 20 and Tuesday, January 21 we had 114 visitors come
through the Museum and see all the wonderful artifacts. From tiny tools to
Aschauers nuts and bolts to a small scale pistol grip lathe and several
salesman models!

If you missed it, The Windsor House at 54 Main Street, has graciously let
us use their display case in the lobby to extend this exhibit! Stop by and
take a look!
