Thank you to all of you who have contributed to the mechanical engineering
library cataloging project online. We have made a new shelf list for all of
the shelves I was able to photograph before we left the museum in March.
Here's a quick summary:

Volunteer hours: ~50 hrs

Volumes inventoried: ~2600 (of those, ~1950 could be identified from the
shelf photos) This corresponds to ~800 volumes in the 1990s inventory in
Past Perfect.

Shelves completed: 80
(there are 30 more shelves to photograph and inventory, or about 700 more
volumes)

Favorite titles: "Knocks and Kinks" and "Practical treatise on the movement
of slide valves by eccentrics". (Do you know any eccentrics?)

I'd say, as experiments go, it was pretty successful. We captured a lot of
accurate up-to-date information about what we have, and the amount of
effort required was modest. Learned a lot about how to do this better;
discovered some interesting books.
