 Instead of watching a Hollywood movie with it's "BS" and inaccuracies, check out this PBS article:

I also recommend reading the book  "Empires of Light: Edison, Tesla, Westinghouse and The Race to Electrify  the World" by Jill Jonnes which is probably more factual than the movie. This book includes a number of illustrations of scientific developments like the Leyden Jar, Volta's Pile, Faraday's experiments, etc. I read this book two or three years ago and will read it again.
