Pro this kind of brings up the topic of special small group hosted events, and after reading the post here it seems that the possibilities are endless to do things such as Mike describes.

We could do special radio groups such as Field Day type things where they could transmit from our site, and when we engineer our way to operate the spark gap through a filtering Matrix to produce a legal signal I'm sure it would be attractive to hams who have historical interest to make contacts that way as guest operator.

And of course, it would be particularly wonderful to power station PJ with one of the steam dynamos for such hands on sparky events.

There might be another revenue possibility, too. In the past we've had car clubs who have made private visits to the museum. Typically they've toured around RI, stopped at the museum for a tour and a picnic, and toured home. All on a day we wouldn't normally be open. They make a donation in lieu of admission fees. Without knowing what types of other events you guys might participate in, the perspective of being seen as a source of revenue is tough to imagine.  For Steam Up, the exhibitors are a primary part of the draw for all of the visitors, so everyone adds to the day by letting others appreciate their toys!  I also think antique car enthusiasts share the same interests as the steam engine enthusiasts do but might not have a lot of crossover exposure.  I had shared with your member, Bob I think it was that I had spoken to, that I grew up with antique cars and had helped one of my brothers in his side business of doing restorations for decades, and yet had never seen anything like the engines at NEWSM until I went there.  All around I think it's a great shared set of interests and I'm just glad they all had a great time being there.  Thanks for your help in facilitating their involvement!

The first car radios were actually bulky home units that were disassembled and stuffed into vehicles wherever they might fit. These days, car radios are well-integrated and incredibly more high-functioning than their predecessors, and most drivers wouldn’t consider owning a car without one.. The same can’t be said of in-car record players.
