I happily spent the day (Steam-up) in the Wireless Building, but as in the past, my head was all stuffed up the whole time and I think the old Homasote ceiling and the old carpet are the problem. We had a great bunch of guests this year!
When plans are made to work on the Radio Workshop, please remember the ceiling in the main hall of the Wireless building needs to be replaced. Also, the carpet should be removed and maybe the floor could be painted instead. This was discussed two years go, but ...
Radio Workshop:
I have an old Stancor 500 watt isolation transformer which could be used in the workshop. 500 watts will handle almost all radios and TVs, etc. Isolation transformers are needed to work on equipment without power transformers ("AC/DC"). Equipment with a transformer power supply don't usually need an isolation transformer. This transformer has a power cord and plug that should be replaced. It weighs about 25 pounds.
Most of the early 1920's radios ran on batteries. A power supply kit with the needed outputs is available from Antique Electronic Supply. It is model # K-101A, UPC 609722133135. They also sell it on eBay for the same price ($54.95).

Hi all,
I know that Steam Up became the priority but it would be great if we could swing back around to the radio workshop project now. I can come on a Saturday to move the rest of the stuff out but after that it's up to Randy as to timeline on removing ceiling, wiring, and building the bench, etc (I think 4'x8' island with cabinets below would work nicely, by the way)
I have a list off the top of my head below:
Finish removing periodicals to old church basementComplete whatever renovations are approved for this roundBuild work bench in center and get some stools (with backs!)Run electrical including an isolation transformer on outlets circuitInstall some kind of heat that works fairly quicklyAdd good (but period correct) ceiling lighting and work arm-lamps for benchPopulate workbench with test equipment and tools per our previous listBring antenna(s) leads and a good ground lead into room
Always have one working HF receiver in the corner!
Start having radio work time in there!
Thoughts?
