Hi everyone,

I took a trip to the museum today to capture some video for a feature I'm
trying to put together on the steam engine valves. Ernie and I had spent a
little time on Thursday opening the steam chest of the American Ball
engine, and found something completely unexpected. The valve is sort of
the complete inverse of a typical slide valve, and the casting work done by
the manufacturer is absolutely amazing. Be sure to take a look on
Thursday, or just wait for the video!

While preparing to leave the phone rang while I happened to be in the
office. I answered it and someone local was interested in stopping by.
They arrived very quickly and I spent a couple hours with them looking
around and demonstrating things. One of the guys was in from California,
visiting a friend who is local. They were both blown away and never
expected to see anything like what we have there. We gained a couple big
fans, and a nice donation.

Tonight, I brought home one of the models from the Mayes building. We may
need it for a demonstration next weekend, and I wanted to be sure we had
something like this that was in working order. I'll let the video speak
for itself. Enjoy!
