David,
When you spend time at one of the trolley museums Frank Sprague is a common name.
The station at the Shore Line Trolley Museum in East Haven, CT is "Sprague"

The museum cat at the Pennsylvania trolley museum out near Pittsburgh is named Franky.

It is neat when researching history that so many of our interests coincide.

I also remember Bob not thinking much of Tesla. I have read a couple of books about Tesla and I think he was brilliant and under-appreciated, but also nutty. Bob's heroes, of course, were Edison and Ben Franklin. Contrary to popular belief, Edison did not invent the light bulb, but he did make it successful.
Another very important, but relatively unknown inventor was Frank J Sprague. His inventions include electrical streetcars (trolleys), multiple controls so one operator can control several subway cars (now on diesels), and the electrically powered elevator.

Craig,
Thanks for the review and the link. Nice to exercise the non-amazon option. I bought a copy of the book that I will donate to the museum library after reading.
Tesla was always a touchy subject with Bob. I always wondered what the backstory was.

I saw the movie on Sunday, and I was right. It sparked further interest in researching some things that I did not know. It was more about relationships amongst the inventors/physicists/scientists than it was about the technical aspect of AC and DC. It was entertaining enough for me to do some more reading.
I did read Empires of Light. Sometimes I just like to see a movie to see how things might be portrayed.
I also own a commemorative coin from the Chicago Columbian Exposition (World's Fair) that I found in my Dad's station wagon when I was 8-years-old, so that part was interesting to me.
I'm glad I saw the movie so that I wouldn't have to wonder whether or not I would like it. I did.

I know we'll enjoy the movie BUT, those not interested in such things probably will not. I told my girlfriend I'd like to go see it. She checked and said "the ratings only give it one tomato.....I'm not going to a one tomato movie"....... Will have to go by myself......

I’m going to see it tomorrow. My wife wanted to do something for me for our anniversary, so off we go. It might inspire me to read another book or two. Sometimes I just need the entertainment factor to spark even more interest...pun intended.

My wife and I went and screened “The Current War” yesterday. It was almost a private screening except for one other couple.
Not a bad flick. From what I know myself of the fight it was pretty accurate. Except for some artistic license. Like them throwing the switch to execute the first person in the first electric chair at the same time they turned on the Worlds Fair in 1893.
I liked the portrayal of Westinghouse.
Oh there was a Westinghouse commercial before the movie! I pointed out that irony to Wife.
Not being a history of Tesla per say there were noisy pigeons on Tesla’s rooms ledge while Westinghouse was making a visit.
