[Thursday] Museum of Work and Culture - Woonsocket

Well we visited the above museum today and it was really well done.  Interesting that the textile machinery and depictions of textile machinery was not steam powered!   perhaps some collaboration  with NEWSM is possible?

We liked the mannequins, they also have those in the USS Nautilus Submarine Museum in Groton...

They have a touch screen table display which is an aerial view of Woonsocket, and you can activate time periods and then tap each factory for its history during that time period, (even up to present) pretty neat!

They have a sample tenement porch and parlor and even includes a Atwater Kent Model 55 (TRF, No regen, MW only) which is a gorgeous console radio that cost $175 at the time. I think Craig's push button audio feature would go nicely to play FDR fireside chat or 1930's Word Series!

There's a church with a movie about manuf and French immigrant history to watch including interesting oral histories, which include some people who loved their time in the plants and others who hated it!

The windows stayed shut because breezes would degrade the quality of the weave.

Anyway, I recommend the museum and $8 is very cheap admission. We had the place to ourselves today as well...
