Hi Everyone,
Happy 2019! I hope everyone had a great Christmas and all and are eager to
dive into a new year!
I was able to speak with a few people at the museum today but wanted to
reach out to the entire group to try and get some planning underway for the
upcoming year. The winter months, when your feet are likely to freeze to
the floor of the wireless building, seem like a great time to actually get
some plans and goals in place for the upcoming year. I hope I can bring
some organization to that effort. Goals seem a lot easier to achieve if we
all know what they are!
Tops on my priority list for the year are to get the wheels turning toward
our educational aspirations. The museum was founded partially to serve an
educational purpose, and I would say we're not fulfilling that to any
appreciable extent. It's also my feeling that by engaging with school-age
children we can help build a new audience in a new generation, and
hopefully interest them in tangible things they might not otherwise ever be
exposed to. I'm hoping to work with the educators we had come by a couple
of years ago and others to start building an outline of exactly what we
need to have in place to receive school groups. We can then start filling
in those pieces in the coming years.
Dave Caldwell had a great idea today that will serve as an excellent
foundation or stepping stone along this educational road. With out
existing connection to the local boy scouts, we could develop some
educational modules that would help them earn merit badges and continue to
engage them, and other troops, with the museum further. The exercise of
building these modules will be be great practice for developing similar
modules for educational groups and complying with current standards.
Beyond this of course there are the ongoing projects, the requisite
maintenance, and lots of ideas that we've all been discussing. If you
could all send me your lists of projects or goals you each might have in
mind I think it would be helpful in prioritizing and developing a real
plan. We accomplished a lot last year, and I think we can accomplish more
this year if we're all on the same page.
Thanks and best wishes for the year ahead,
--
