[Thursday] Steam Engine Ads

Well that is OK since since we have one of each installed next to each other in the steam building.

What is interesting is when I put "corner of Park and Promenade Streets, Providence, RI" (the address for Harris Corliss from our web page) in Google Earth it goes to "Corliss Park" which is right near 146 and Branch. From what I can see Park and Promenade is the Providence Place Mall. Feel free to correct if need be. I don't know anything about downtown Providence.

Interesting though as just yesterday at the museum we were talking about the many engine manufacturer names with Corliss in them. In fact the poster just outside the bathroom door is a good example of how many company's started using Corliss admission valves after the patent expired.

Came across a couple of interesting steam engine ads in
 the Providence
 Journal, April 12, 1893.

One is from Corliss weaning people to not believe ads
 about the improved
Corliss Steam engines put out by other companies in America
 and Europe and right
below it is one of the ads they warn about.
