Hi All,
In addition to Len's comments, since we now have the new callsign for the
Massie Wireless Radio Club, N1EPJ, we can begin promoting the callsign by
getting on the air regularly (hopefully) and inviting other hams to use the
station (supervised). Even if it were once per month, as a club meeting,
the station would become better known as the callsign gets out on the air.
Our new QSL card (in process) might become a sought-after memento of
old-school-confirmation-of-contact by other amateur radio operators,
especially considering the historical nature of the station.
At Steam Up, in the Massie Building, the Morse code table generated lots of
interest, conversation, and hands-on code activity all day long. One young
boy was so mesmerized by the concept of using the code key to communicate
that he wants to fully learn the code so he can help us out next year!
I left my post a few times during the day to check on things in the
Wireless building. Each time I saw multiple visitors lining the hallway in
front of the windows, pressing buttons to hear about what's in each
display. It's a nice enhancement to both the guided and self-guided tour.
Many positive comments and some constructive ones as well. In particular,
one guest recognized the 1949 poster of Q-codes, International Morse Code,
Railroad code, etc., hanging on the wall in the Massie Building. He "knew"
how rare and valuable it is and suggested it be put in a frame under
glass. We can do that.
It was a great day all around. People had lots of fun.
