Lou, for the record book, and everyone for interest.

Yesterday I headed down to begin the Saturday routine discussed in my other
message. Both out of it's need and with the possibility of an upcoming
volunteer paint crew, I decided to begin replacing the rotted wood on the
meeting hall. I stripped all of the wet and rotted pieces from the north
and west sides. It's incredibly interesting to me that the vast majority
of damage is actually in the new work that was done since it was moved
there to the museum property and in areas that have been repaired
previously. Other than cosmetics and a few very isolated spots, all of the
original pine siding is quite sound. In speaking to Paul early in the day
he mentioned that the building has been raised the entirety of that bottom
section, and that the band of trim that now sits about 4 feet above grade
was literally the bottom of the building sitting on granite blocks. As I
removed pieces, that became more obvious than I had ever considered. The
first day, and getting an understanding of what needed to be done took up
some time. I was able to get some new pieces up. Hopefully the rest will
go much quicker. Late in the afternoon Bob drove through and was very
upset with me. More than anything I think he was just surprised. After
surveying what I was doing and correcting me on my pronunciation of
"clapboard" by citing the Merriam-Webster dictionary (quite humorous
actually), he commended me for my efforts, which I appreciated. Hopefully
next Saturday will be a little more productive and I can get it all back
together.

Also, the basement windows are still a problem in this equation. Several
people have suggested that they be removed, and honestly I tend to agree
that the building would look more normal and historically accurate without
them. I inquired with Bob while he was there as to his feeling on removing
them rather than replacing them. He would prefer to keep them. I'll look
into some new duplicate units as some of them are literally falling out of
the building.
