On Monday, November 9, 2015 the Lookout boiler was moved to AD&D Welding and Boiler Works so it could be cleaned. The volunteer crew had removed all the exterior fittings and built a moving cradle over the previous few weeks. While it’s away the boiler will be rolled to loosen and remove scale that has accumulated inside during the last dozen years.
Various methods–from geometry and slide rule, to augury and hand-waving–had been used to estimate the weight of the boiler in advance. According to the crane operator, William Greene, it’s 8200 pounds, and he should know.
