<div dir="ltr">Rob and others,</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">As you found out there is a lot of misinformation out there. I have been researching AMRAD off and on for a few years. The best information I have found is in "Radio Manufacturers of the 1920's", Vol 1 by Alan Douglas. This article runs from page 39 through 53. If you don't have this book, you should see if you can find one. The complete set has three volumes.</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">JP Morgan financed AMRAD, but JP died in 1913 and his son "Jack" and Harold Power, JP's radio operator on his yacht ran the company, but neither were good business men. AMRAD's hey day was during WWI with military contracts, but when the war ended so did the contracts. AMRAD had a hard time competing with the "big" companies in the 1920's and filed for bankruptcy in 1925. </div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">Around then, Powel Crosley bought AMRAD mainly to get their "Neutrodyne" license. All Crosley had at that time was a Regenerative license. Crosley used the AMRAD facilities for a few years and then sold the property to Tufts College, the next door neighbor.</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">AMRAD did have the first radio station - a couple of years before KDKA went on the air. In the Wireless Building, there is a chair that came from the AMRAD station next to the AMRAD equipment display.</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">There is one big error in the online "Radiomuseum" article about AMRAD. It states Crosley Corp was sold to Magnavox during the Great Depression. Crosley Corp stayed in business until the end of WWII when Powel sold it to AVCO who continued using the Crosley name. There may be other errors as well.</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">Today, AMRAD is the name of a company that makes motor start capacitors.<br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">Dave Crowell</div><div dir="ltr">KA1EDP</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">4 PMer's Net, 3922 KHz at 4:00 PM</div><div dir="ltr">Monday net controller<br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div><br clear="none"></div>
