<div dir="ltr">Interestingly, I was just reading some of Alan Doulas comments last night on Hickok tube testers. We both agree the reverend TV-7D is basically a <div>lousy tube tester for matching tubes and though it makes a great tube tester it cannot hold a candle to the Hickok 539 series. The complete set has three volumes.</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">JP Morgan financed AMRAD, but JP died in 1913 and his son "Jack" and Harold Power, JP's radio operator on his yacht ran the company, but neither were good business men. AMRAD's hey day was during WWI with military contracts, but when the war ended so did the contracts. AMRAD had a hard time competing with the "big" companies in the 1920's and filed for bankruptcy in 1925. </div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">Around then, Powel Crosley bought AMRAD mainly to get their "Neutrodyne" license. All Crosley had at that time was a Regenerative license. Crosley used the AMRAD facilities for a few years and then sold the property to Tufts College, the next door neighbor.</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">AMRAD did have the first radio station - a couple of years before KDKA went on the air. In the Wireless Building, there is a chair that came from the AMRAD station next to the AMRAD equipment display.</div><div dir="ltr"><br clear="none"></div><div dir="ltr">There is one big error in the online "Radiomuseum" article about AMRAD. It states Crosley Corp was sold to Magnavox during the Great Depression. Crosley Corp stayed in business until the end of WWII when Powel sold it to AVCO who continued using the Crosley name.
