The Other Side of Night is the best nonfiction book regarding the sinking<div>of the Titanic that I have ever read. I have not yet finished the</div><div>book but am progressing rapidly. The author is Daniel Butler.</div><div><br></div><div>The book details the involvement of the Carpathia and the </div><div>Californian in the rescue effort as the Titanic went down. One</div><div>ship, the Carpathia, was captained by an expert and humane</div><div>captain who was responsible for saving the lives of almost</div><div>every survivor. His ship, originally 58 miles away from the sinking Titanic,</div><div>arrived on the scene hours after the <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Titanic went down. </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">His name was Arthur Rostron. Meanwhile, the Californian, commanded by</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Captain Stanley Lord, was only 10 miles from the scene and</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">witnessed distress flares from the Titanic which was still afloat.</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">Unbelievably, he chose to dismiss the event and continue on</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">his way, in spite of also being aware of the Morse Code distress</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">signals from the Titanic!</span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;"><br></span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">This ‘Wireless and Steam” (familiar phrase?) story is a masterpiece </span></div><div><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">of true suspense and tragedy on the high seas.
