In June of 2000, 35 steamboats came to Rideau Lakes in Ontario for a week of exploring the beautiful Canadian lakes and canals. Rolly Evans, who designs and builds high performance steamboats, invited Greg and Elle Lindin and Nancy and Robert Merriam to cruise with him on his Lisa Ann. The base of operations was the Opinicon Hotel at Chaffey’s Locks. Although it burned wood and made hardly a trace of smoke Rolly’s boat was likely the top performer in the fleet. Since the the steamboat made very little sound it was a wonderfully relaxing week.
